DIY Christmas Decor Idea

All of my fall decor is packed away, and the bins with Christmas decor have been removed from the attic. I pulled the first glitter tree out of one of the bins, and you should have seen my child’s eyes light up. There’s something so magical about Christmas, and I’m decorating early this year so that we have plenty of time to enjoy it.

I like to add new pieces to my Christmas decor each year, and this year I decided that I would try and do more homemade decorations. The first piece is this very simple eucalyptus window arrangement. This is a very easy Christmas DIY and it adds such an elegant touch to our home.

Make your own!

  1. Order stems of your choice. There are so many options now, but I opted for these stems. Mine actually arrived flat, which worked really well, as you want these to lay flat against the window.
  2. Use wire cutters to cut the length from the stems. (Not going to lie…I needed some help here from my teenage son!) Bind the ends with the rubber band to help hold them together, and then wrap several times with your rope, knotting it off in the back. Make sure you wrap several times so that you cover the rubber band.
  3. I used these bells and looped them together and tied them on with a single twist tie to one of them stems. (Pick a stem that is sort of in the middle so that you can’t see where the twist tie attaches.)
  4. Finally, make a bow with tails and attach with a twist tie, knotting off the twist tie in the back. (If you are unsure as to how to tie a bow, check out YouTube. There are hundreds of tutorials.)

I am NOT a bow expert and actually struggled quite a bit with this final step. This is something that I am going to work on over the next year.

I used a command hook and simply nestled the arrangement on the hook. There is no need to fashion a loop to use as a hanger.

I’m including some options for stems and ribbon at the bottom of this post if you are interested in making your own. There are so many good choices but hopefully these selections will help narrow the choices down for you!
